Yes, the new bearing is toast. It's supposed to be a one-piece unit. On the 9000 the bearings are integrated into the hub and replaced as a unit - the hub separated in the middle. The hub bolts up to the steering knuckle and then the axle is *supposed* to go back through into the hub to be secured by the 32mm CV joint nut on the end.
And no, it's not $70, try $100 at the cheapest on-line advertiser. A couple of local parts places quoted me prices of between $250-300 for this part - that's waayyy over even dealer price! I'm trying to get the seller (a well-liked and respected TSN advertiser, to remain nameless for now) to warranty it - it should not ever fail like that, especially while just installing it - but I haven't gotten him to return my calls and e-mail (grrrrr). The car is off the road until he sends me a new hub/bearing and I successfully install it.
