I'm an old GM transmission development engineer, but with only a little Saab experience. This is a really strange problem, so I'm interested in learning with you. You feel that once engaged at speed, power transmission is fine, correct? When it slips on turns or slowing, does the trans lose it at a sharply defined mph or shift point? Is the turning influence really only due to slowing down? If you can get it to hold power properly at some cruising speed, and while keeping just a little throttle (5-10%), gently and slowly brake the car down with your left foot, describe at what speed and the nature of the event where engine slip starts to occur.
Explain "problem with the car shifting into high gear for a while 3-4 but letting off the gas sometimes helped". This really sounds like a valvebody control problem or governor pressure abnormality, rather than the expensive gear/clutch/bearing type of problem.
I'll ask the most basic question: when you checked the fluid level, it was done with the engine running and trans in park, correct? Low fluid level and possible filter seal problems can really make for erratic behavior.
Two more questions: 1) does reverse work correctly? 2) Do you notice anything unusual about the "garage shifts" neutral-to-drive or neutral-to reverse?
Finally, much can be diagnosed with knowledge of the transmission line pressure. A 200 psi gauge taped to the windshield wiper and connected with a length of pressure hose to the transmission line pressure tap (I've got pictures) gives great info during driving tests.
