Not to come off the wrong way, but I completely disagree. I'm staring at the compressor map for the OEM T3 right now and I will tell you straight up: If you are running over 1.0 bar, you are risking damage to the turbo. If the stock engine runs at 0.9 bar (my bad saying 0.5 was stock, I always wondered why my needle went almost to the red when the car was stock) then that leaves almost no headroom for relatively risk-free increases in boost. Your turbo may not have blown up when you ran at 1.3+ bar, but it was only a matter of time before something failed.
Since turbos don't have valve trains and so forth, exceeding their redline isn't as deadly as in an engine. However, their redline wouldn't be 153kRPM if they could spin faster safely, especially 30kRPM faster as yours likely would at 1.5 bar.
Turbos are not 'supposed' to glow orange. Granted, a little bit of red isn't always a bad thing, but a turbo that hot that is ALSO running 30kRPM over redline is not healthy under ANY condition. That kind of heat will cook the hell out of your oil (and coolant assuming it's a wet turbo, which the OEM T3 is). The OEM coolant system was not built to handle that kind of pressure and unless it is maintained in top shape, it will not hold up under the pressure of the coolant trying to evaporate.
However, if the chip he buys only puts him around 1.0 to 1.1 bar, it will probably be pretty safe, so I digress.
Remember though that just because you didn't have a problem doesn't mean that others won't either. Hell, I'm a perfect example. When I attempted 1.5 bar, everything went wrong. What's to say that Shahn's results would be as good as yours? Sorry if any of this sounds rude, I really don't want to come off that way, but please don't give advice that could be harmful to people unless you know what you are talking about. Even if I had done a bunch of testing and it seemed that the T3 was stable at 1.5 bar, I still wouldn't tell people to do it, just because it's so far above the manufacturer's spec. The manufacturer knows the turbo far better than you or I. Turbocharging is a dangerous sport, better to be safe and upgrade your turbo if you want to play =)
