Well, I've just got to let everyone know that I was able to get the rear speakers in successfully.
Thanks to Aaron (and other gurus), for the friendly advice and e-mails.
For what its worth, I've got a new Alpine head unit "driving" Pioneer poly-cone 6.5 in the rear and (probably) stock front speakers.
What I notice is that the overall quality has improved, but the front speakers are the center piece of the system, so if I want better sound right away I will need to replace what's there with improved quality speakers.
Oh, the rear tweeters are now gone... I wasn't sure how to get them to work with the rear Pioneers, and don't have a soldering gun, so tweeters will have to wait for a bit.
Front speakers are next, any suggestions. Remember, this is budget-city, I love this car, but if I can better than stock sound for $20 -$60 for a set of speakers, that's what I'll buy!
