Sully,

Well, the information I gave you before was from Alldata, too (I was at work, did not have access to the book). Now that I'm home and have had a chance to look at the book, guess what? It's different! Whatta shocker, huh? Can you tell I'm not one of Alldata's biggest fans?

Anyhow, here's the complete rundown. This comes from Saab's "Engine Management System OBDII Supplement" for MY1997, which should be the most current information.

The +12V power source is relay 229 terminal 87, that's the main engine management system relay in the fusebox. From there it goes thru splice J37 (in the harness) to connector H10-25 (10-pin connector behind left headlamp) pin 9. Then on to connector H6-5 (6-pin "in engine bay behind right-hand light cluster") pin 6 and to pin 1 of the connector at the valve.

The return circuit starts at pin 2 of the valve connector, and goes to pin 5 of H6-5. Then thru pin 8 of H10-25, to H70-1 (70-pin "connector, in engine bay behind the bolkhead partition"). Then it ends at pin 27 of the ECU.

I also had a good troubleshooting idea. Start the car and let it idle until it's warm. Listen to the valve to see if it's clicking (note: the book says it has a "4.5 minutes active, 0.5 minutes inactive" cycle, so give it at least 30 seconds).

If the valve is clicking, you've got some sort of a plumbing problem - there's no flow from the canister to the manifold. Or you could have an intermittent electrical problem.

If the valve is *not* clicking, it's an electrical problem - troubleshoot using the above info.

Good luck!

Eric
