You are absolutely right ... the 9000 shares his body with Fiat, Alfa and Lancia. Here, in Belgium-Europe, we actually are still able to daily
see Lancia's and, more and more, 9000 Saabs. So, it might be signify that Fiat and Alfa didn't produce a very high quality car at that period. Which isn't very surprising. The fact taht we see more and more 9000 Saabs is that the second hand price for that kind of car is
amanzingly low ... for the same quality and " technical/luxury " level in another european brand ( Mercedes, BMW ), same year and mileage,
you will have to pay the double of the Saab's price, even more. The proximity of North Africa and all the East Block countries makes also
the ownership of a Mercedes, a BMW, an Audi or a VW, more "dangerous" ... in fact, they are the most stolen brands by very agressive,
organised and informed gangs.
So, Saab and Lexus are, for the moment, a very good trade and deal, for mid-thirties people who want a nice preowned car that doesn't
interest thieves and that they are reliable if you maintain them in good condition. The only bad sides of it for us are legal taxes : the State
kills us for the horsepower of that kind of vehicule. And, of course, there's also the fuel price. Around 1,35 $ for a liter of Super 98
octan of unleaded.
Last thing to say : GM wanted to enlarge the potential market of Saab by gaining those who wanted a Turbo Diesel Injection engine in a Saab. Diesel fuel is less expensive here and very common. So, they've putted the Opel Vectra Tdi in 9-3 and 9-5 Saabs ' cause it was too expensive to develop an original new engine only for Saab. But the Vectra's engine didn't fit the Saabs very well ... so, they have decided
to build those 9-3 and 9-5 Saab Tdi on an Opel Vectra Sedan body.
The result is that the guy who buys now this car, is in fact buying an Opel Vectra, disguised in Saab ... with the Saab price of course.
