Ramps scare me. I am not sure that it's anything rational, but they do.
I use a floor jack at the back of the rear mounting bracket for the rear bushing on the front control arm. I have a larger jack that supports the ends of the bracket, and a smaller jack that fits between the rear bolt heads on that bracket. Of the two, the smaller jack fits better but is harder work to raise.
I then place a jack stand under the factory jack location. I then place another jack stand under the front subframe. The second jack stand is just loosely placed under the subframe and offers no support as long as the first jack stand doesn't fall over. I then put the jack under the front subframe and raise it so that it just touches the subframe. And when I really get crazy, I may add a bottle jack somewhere.
Oh yeah, and then I shake it before I get under it.
Now, some of you may find this to be overkill, but in my professional life as an attorney, I spend my days mired in the misfortune of others. Which, as you can see, is not without it's effect on one's psyche.
