I whole heartedly agree with the views above. It is sad that for the sake of fashion/fad everyone is wanting to own an SUV. I have always disliked the SUV thing and recently on a trip to Atlanta where I had reserved a mid-size car they were encouraging all there customer to "upgrade" to an SUV for $10 a day. My initial reaction was no way in heck. But then, I thought that why not try out this thing - I had refused to drive this monsters in the past. Anyway, I agreed to try it and I got a Dodge Durango which was named as one the least green of all vehicles on the market (I think by consumers report). Well, My two days with this SUV only made my opinion of SUVs stronger - that they are very clumsy to drive, ride like a truck, numb-boat like steering, gas guzzling, and plain "inferior" to the ride/built quality/solidity of a car or a wagon. They do not have that much more room than some very nice wagons on the market. AND I did not feel any more MACHO than I do when I drive my '93 9KT cse AND believe it or not but I did not feel any safer while driving it on the Interstates because they just did not have the solid feel of control that my 9000 does. I loved driving my SAAB back home from the airport when I got back home - It never felt better. So, my opinion of SUVs have not changed at all after experiencing them first hand - They still suck.
Happy Saabing! I will not shed a tear the next time gas prices go up and they show someone on TV filling up an SUV and just whining about how the gas prices are hurting people alike.
