I will try these suggestions. But first I guess I'll have to put the head back on. I am sure that I have spark, I actually pulled a plug, grounded it, and cranked. The original plugs were in really bad shape, so I replaced them and the spark looks very good. The distributor is fine too, but I didn't check to see that the plug wires are in the right order or that the distributor is in step with the engine. Otherwise, everything seems fine. The carburetor is actually a rebuild and works great. If this really is something simple, I'm going to be kicking myself for having spent half a day pulling the head. But I guess it's a good learning experience anyway. This car's only got 130,000 miles, so if it IS something simple, I did get a pretty good deal on it.
By the way, what does it mean if there's some oil in the intake? I know it's not good, but I'm not sure what's going on to make it get there.
