Hi,
The connector on the AMM (that electonic looking thing on the BIG rubber hose between the Air Filter and the Turbo) was super dirty. After cleaning it a bit, (I used some break cleaner) the car started to idle much better.
Also the compressor hose was not on all the way (on the Turbo).
Further, for years I thought that these problems were cause by a a bad AIC valve (Automatic idle control) which sits on top of the intake mani. but as others wrote there are MANY reasons for unstable idle. What I did on my old 86 9k T is turned up the idle control screw, because if I did not the car would stall.
BTW a good and fun way to check the hoses is get a propane or something flammable like brake cleaner and spray it on parts of the engine while the car is on. I am serious, the car will "race" for a bit if there is a leak.
DON"T LIGHT ANYTHING, the reason this test works is because IF there is a leak the flammable fuel gets sucked in (thru leak) and cause the engine to "race".
Good Luck
