The Aero turbo will fit your exhaust manifold with some misalignment of the flanges, but if you could get the Aero exhaust manifold as well, it would all fit. I don't know what your ecus would make of it, though. The Aero ECU is, as you say, Trionic and wouldn't fit the wiring. The Trionic sensors wouldn't be there if it did. In particular, the fuel system is very different on Trionic. It doesn't have an air mass meter and has a MAP sensor and inlet temperature sensor to measure the airflow. It does in one ECU what your car uses at least two to do (ignition, fuel, turbo).
Not silly questions, and youir mates at the pub should speak to my colleagues here. They could have a right bitching session...
If you think your car isn't running properly, I'd get it running right first, then start modifying. Otherwise it probably still won't work properly and you won't know whether it is the modification or something else. Your description that it drives like an old man's car sometimes seems to indicate that it may not be quite right.
Oh, and if it's an automatic Aero, the turbo will be the same as yours.
