Robert:

When I bought my '90T, I had exactly the same problem symptoms. It was much worse during the summer and also when I let the car idle for long periods, shut it off and immediately tried to restart (such as waiting for my son at wresting practice que line) - i.e., strongly heat dependent.

I replaced, in this order - with new parts, the starter/solenoid, ignition switch, the auto transmission lock out switch, bypassed the anti-theft ignition lockout circuit on the alarm by bridge soldering across the relay contacts on the PC board, and , finally in desperation, replaced the yellow 14 ga solenoid wire from the bulkhead fitting all the way to the solenoid - soldering all connections/splice.

Bottom line, about 2 weeks before the one year warrently on the rebuilt starter was up, in frustration I took it back to the parts suppier and exchanged it for another one. Since that time, I have not had a single problem. For what it is worth, the first rebuild had a "made in Mexico" stamp on the solenoid (yes it was a Bosch factory rebuild). The second solenoid was stamped made in Germany (also a Bosch factory rebuild).

There are conjections on the BB about the solenoid wire developing excessive resistance over time and using a relay to overcome the problem. Maybe that's true in some cases, but with me it was simply a couple of bad solenoids, and since all of the starters/solenoids were Bosch, I personally think that it is a quality control/marginal design issue. My two cents...
