Due to under dimensioned wiring between ign switch and solenoid, the starter doesn't receive a strong enough signal to kickstart the solenoid.
Instead of using the bulky Ford solenoid, I have used the white ign lock relay from Saab 900 89 and up.
Two of the prongs on that relay is of sturdier design and holds up perfect for this kind of job.
