I don't think you should have to un-do the refrigerant lines. I didn't in my '88 when I did this job. However, I did free the lines where they come through the top of the false bulkhead. After removing the Torx screws for the evaporator housing, I was able to get it to move one inch to the passenger (U.S.) side. That was enough. Getting it back in required having somebody hold the evap housing for me, while I struggled. Before pulling out the blower motor housing, make careful note of its position, and even take some measurements, because it's very hard to get into the right position, and you won't be sure at first that it is correct. In my case, it didn't match up perfectly with everything, and then I was able to re-try, and I got it in properly.
Be very careful of the foam baffles within the blower housing, because if you wreck it, you will get hot air all the time. Mine had degraded so much that I replaced them, and then I gouged them getting the stupid thing back in. Good luck.
