you find one that has not been abused, there is a good chance you will be OK.
I have an '89 2.0L Turbo which I bought with 98K miles. Today it has 166K miles and i've had no problems with the Auto transmission since I bought it.
I believe the key is to not abuse it and change the fluid on a regular basis. I do it once a year.
Besides, since you you already own and work on 9000's, why learn a new animal?
I own the '89 and also have a '94 Aero. Because the Saab's depreciate so fast, you can get a lot of car for the money, expcially if you do your own work. My plan is to reach 200K miles on them then replace them with another used Saab.
Also, think of the safety. I think your dad will be better off in a SAAB than most other cars.
Good luck.
Tony
