So my turbo froze ...

Last week the turbo just stopped working. One minute it was working, the next minute it wasn't. The next day it boosted one time, briefly. Last weekend I pulled the inlet duct and found that the turbo was seized up solid. It had been boosting reluctantly at part throttle for a month or two, and has been getting progressively noisier for the last couple of years, particularly the last year. I thought these water cooled jobs didn't fail, and I must say I'm very surprised. I ordered a rebuilt from A1turbo.com, and Roscoe, the guy I talked with, said it was pretty common for the Saab turbos to seize. He also said I had to install a brand new oil feed line to validate the warranty, and went on to tell me all about how it tends to coke up. I've been running Royal Purple synthetic for the 50 K miles that I've owned the car, and I thought that would protect me from things like this. It will be interesting to see what that oil line looks like this weekend when I put the rebuilt in (new oil line is on order). So what does everyone else think? Common failure? Need to replace the oil line every 50 K, as Roscoe says (cleaning won't do, according to him)?
Well, as Mr. Kaplan says, "If I was afraid if trouble, I'd be driving a Camry." I think the only thing left that can fail on my car is the starter motor ... I've replaced nearly everything else. 'Course, I haven't done the crank pully yet ... nor the balance chain sprocket ...
