Weak spark (plugs or DI, although usually the DI shows up at high boost) or automatic idle control (AIC)come to mind from your description. (Although it would be helpful to know more about your car.)
Does it stumble when you give it gas before the idle dies? If so, it may be a fuel starvation problem associated with the fuel pump or pressure regulator. The fuel filter has a massive surface area and usually doesn't get clogged, but there is always the exception. I would expect fuel starvation to be more obvious at road speed, but it sounds like a warm up issue.
