Nice clean BPC valve - story continued....

To keep you up to date, erratic boost, plenty of boost cut, so I cleaned BPC very thoroughly, and reinstalled to find low, bust smooth and consistent boost
Boost has remained constant, smooth, top yellow max all yesterday and in the (cooler, much damper) evening through to 11pm.
Off to work this morning, sitting in traffic for an hour in pouring rain, 14 degrees cent outside. Traffic finally clears, foot down, and, back to massive top red and beyond boost, holding in 5th, overboosting if I wack open the throttle in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but will hold very high end red boost if I apply throttle more gently. No fluctuating any more, but certainly boosting as it used to.
But why this morning, and not the last couple of days? And awhy and I periodically hitting boost cut again?
Can I safely assume the BPC is dead and should I get a new one? (I would not get a second hand one) I am certainly leaning toward that.
I had assumed the wastegate actuator rod had come adrift again, but obviously not. Shall I bite the bullet and just go ahead and get a new one anyway?
Thanks in advance,
Zip
