So its actually exacly the opposite effect from what I described, the metal coolant line inside of the larger hose serves to heat the air above freezing before it reaches the PCV line. Cool!
Now that I think about it, the short distance from the fitting to the throttle body wouldn't reduce the temperature of the coolant much at all anyway, although it could warm up the air in the tube quite a lot. To really reduce the temperature of coolant, you would need sonething like, well...like a radiator! Yet seeing no other obvious purpose last night, I could only conclude that the little device was to "cool the coolant."
HA!
Now that my pride has been wounded, if everyone could siletly ackowledge that I made a pretty good guess, then I would feel much better.
