AC fan, clutch

The story so far:
Replaced shredded serpentine belt and (as it was the 4th time in 2 years) tensioner last week.
Now the AC is not working - compressor will rotate by hand, but clutch not engaging.
Searched the BB for advice, and decided the first step was to check whether AC fan was being activated.
First problem - where the h*** is it? Another search tells me that it it is not fitted for all markets - I guess Sweden is not supposed to get that hot, or maybe it's just that we don't get any traffic jams here (I'm not sure the Stockholmers would agree)! Whatever - the AC has been working fine for years without it!
OK, next step is the relay. Not that easy to get the glove box out - tight at the air vent, but eventually found the relay was absolutely OK (but had a metal cover, not red).
Eventually, a close look at the connection to the AC clutch shows that it was damaged, presumably by bits of flying serpentine belt.
But what should it look like? Mine has got a blue wire going from a small in-line connector to the top of the black plastic moulding, there's a tiny capacitor (?) inside, between the two (rather bent) connector pins, and a few mm of bare wire poking out of the bottom, which doesn't look right.
Presumably the pins are supposed to push on to the clutch assembly, but should that bare wire go somewhere?
