(1) When you install the head, do you need any sealent along the head gasket?

Haven't done this on my SAAB. I'll let the experts out there answer this. I presume some kind of sealant is required.

(2) When you bolt the clutch on the flywheel, do you need a special tool to line up the clutch disk, in order to accept the tranny?

Of course. Otherwise you'll have a hard time installing the transmission to the engine block.

(3)Sepentine belt, does anyone have a diagram of how the belts should look after installation?

It's on page 97 of your owner's manual. In case you don't have it, here is a verbal description. Counterclockwise from the AC compresser pulley (belt serration side in), first to the alternator, then to the idler between the power steering pump and the alternator (serration out on the idler), next to the power steering pump (serration side in), next to the idler on the tensioner (serration side out), then to the crank pulley (serration side in), then to the water pump (serration side in), then back to the AC compressor to make the loop.

(4)Do I need a special tool for the belt tensioner?

There are various ways to clamp the tension to install it. Check the archive. I use a pair of 12" (or is it 15"?) adjustable wide jaw pliers to clamp on to the tensioner bracket to compress it with my right hand and hold it. Than I use my left hand to fit up the idler between the alternator and the power steering pump (with the S-belt correctly looped of course). Hand tighten the bolt for the idler. Once that is done, I then let go of the jaws of the pliers. Finally I tighten the bolt of the idler to spec.

Take your time to install the chains (timing and balance shaft). make sure they are put in w/ #1 cylinder at TDC. Good luck.
