i've owned 5 saabs; 2 900's and 3 9000's(i'm addicted to hatchbacks). none were purchased new. i'm frugal by nature, so this would apply to any car i've purchased in the past and, probably, to any car i purchase in the future. that being said, i've never encountered the horrific depreciation that accompanies the purchase of a new saab. saabs are apparently perceived as unreliable, trouble prone and difficult to work on. this would probably make any 9000 unsuitable as a new car purchase for anyone who is not mechanically inclined and intends to keep the vehicle for some length of time.

fixing, modernizing, and maintaining cars is something of a hobby for me and this seems to serve me well when it comes to saabs. i, like Yaofeng, can deal with any mechanical repairs. as long as the car has decent paint, is rust free, and has reletively few blemishs i'm a happy camper.

so i guess you can count me as one of those diy people who enjoys saab's relatively low resale prices and can deal with the high maintainance.
