Unfortunately, I can't tell you that my stock setting overboost fuel cutoff switch came on at such and such psi on either my VDO or Autometer gauge (I've had both in my car). The reason? As soon as I hit that sucker for the first time, the very next day I was in there cranking it up a turn. What I do remember, is just where on my Saab boost gauge it was, 1/3 into the red. That reading corresponded quite well with just under 15 psi on either the VDO or Autometer gauge.
What I find curious, is that when the engine is off, my Autometer is one tick to the negative side of 0, ie -1 psi (sorry, don't remember the inHG conversion off the top of my head). I've always wondered if this means that it actually is reading 1 psi lower than the true boost, or not.. My VDO had this same problem, though I think it was only -0.5 psi.
I thought the idea of buying an aftermarket boost gauge, no matter what manufacturer, was because it WAS calibrated? Maybe not calibrated in the truest sense, ie that every single gauge goes through a test before it is packed up and sold, certifying that what is reads is exactly what it should read. I always thought the 'calibrated boost gauge' simply meant that it had an actual scale of numbers and thus told you the actual boost (and vacuum if so equipped), rather than simply 1/2 yellow or 1/2 red, etc..
