When I got my head redone in January, many of the valves would not completely seat themselves initially. The machine shop was the same that the local dealer uses, so I ruled out the possibility of the job being done poorly or incorrectly.

Upon turning the camshafts a few times times, I found that at least two of them decided to settle completely into place, whereas initally they were sticking out a couple of mm. I turned the shafts more and discovered that the remaining valves seemed closer to closing all the way than before.

I decided that the rapid turning and vibration of cranking and starting (and also the pressure exerted by the piston) would very quickly settle the remaining valves. They were only sticking out a couple of mm anyway.

I guess I was right, because my engine has run flawlessly since January.

As long as the valve is not sticking out enough to cause interference, the I wouln't worry about it.
