Granted, that is more miles than your dilemma, but it's still way too few for a failure!!!
Bought the car with 44K miles on it, and while driving it home, the tranny would bang when shifting into 2nd. Funny thing about this is that it wasn't happening when I test drove it twice before. Brought it back (mind you, I live well over 100 miles from this dealer) and they replaced it with a re-man (under Saab warranty). All was fine, and then at 48K, the tranny started leaking fluid real bad all over my garage floor (and where I had just driven from). Turned out to be the seal popped out where the shift linkage goes into the case, and while under load, fluid would literally pour out of it! After numerous attempts by my local Saab dealer to correct the situation (which included using an anaerobic sealant, much like a heavy-duty glue, to keep the seal in place), they replaced the tranny with another re-man (under Saab warranty again, car having 51K on it) due to a manufacturing defect in making the hole too large for the seal to stay in place.
Now, I have a "new" tranny with only 7K miles on it, and couldn't be happier about that!
Just thought I'd share my experience with you (misery *loves* company).
