Some (Aeroguy, for example) have gone hundreds of thousands of
miles with no problems. I've had one problem in the 8 years I've
owned my 9000's. I don't see how this problem can be related to
Trionic. Perhaps it's a quality control problem with the production
of DI cassettes. And the Saab DI uses individual coils for each
plug, also. The question is who builds the DI's for Volvo and why
can't Saab use them as a source for their DI's, if they're less prone
to failure? 12 years is a long time for a fault to exist, on such a critical
part, and not be rectified. Saab has done extensive failure
analysis on this part, which is one reason that the plug-gap spec's
were changed, favoring the narrower range. I don't doubt that you've
probably worked on many more Saabs than other tech's on this BB,
but still, does your experience constitute an adequate sample size
to make a definitive statement correlating premature failure with
plug gaps? You could be a statistical 'outlier' and the fact remains
that, on average, most premature failures are somehow related to
plugs. Then again, perhaps there is a serious quality control, or
worse, basic design problem...........I don't know!
