As I said earlier, I don't think you can prolong the life by gapping the plugs over and over again, or change them every 10K miles.

Because I have seen so many different scenarios, where the DI have failed.

It may be that the DI cassette is a very difficult part to produce, and you are just lucky to get one that last longer than others.

And as I said, if you scan through the NG900, 9-3 and 9-5 board. More and more voices are heard where the DI failed way to early, even before the plugs should have been worn out.

The scenarios with the 9K failures are that the car gives you plenty of warning signals in terms of lacking power or misfire, that gets worse and worse.

If you check the 9-3 9-5 board. Almost 100% of the failures have been instant without any warning signs.

It can be that the owner parked the car, and it never starts up again, or that it dies on the road never to start again.

The NG900 with DI is kind of caught in the middle, with 50/50 % of sudden failures and ample warning failures.

One ide I have about the later models sudden death is that maybe the TRIONIC system is soo sofisticated nowadays so it wont accept any deviations whatsoever from perfect running.

As a comparison. If you take an engine from 60 and 70's, you could pretty much disconnect all the small vacuum hoses from intake manifold, and the engine would still run pretty ok. If you disconnect one vacuum hose of a mid 90 and up engine, you almost always run into starting and running problems and check engine lights coming on.

Back to the 9K. The software used in the early Trionic boxes may have been a lot more resitant to fluctuations in signals and therefore only give you a misfire in the beginning of the failure.

The TRIONIC boxes installed in late 90 and up may have such a narrow band of acceptance, that instead of allowing misfire, it shuts down the car completly. Until problem is fixed.

This may be something that the new emission laws require, ( I don't know)

Because if the car is allowed to be driven around misfiring, it sends out a tremendous amount of unburned exhuast and it could and will kill the catalytic converter.
