With an 82C thermostat, the coolant circulating in the core will be some 5-7 degrees (C) cooler than with the stock thermostat.

The ACC controls cabin temperature two ways. First, it know the coolant temp, and adjusts the position of the heater flap to get it in the ballpark of what cabin temperature you set. The ACC then uses the signal from the cabin temperature sensor (in the instrument panel) and sun sensor (on the top of the dashboard near the A-pillar) to fine tune.

If you've got a cooler thermostat, the coolant will be a little cooler, but the ACC knows that. And even if it didn't, it can still compensate for it with the 'fine' adjust by controlling flap position to cabin temperature.

So that long answer really is, No, the ACC compensates for the lower thermostat setting, and just gives you more heat. It doesn't explain why you need a different setting to be comfortable.

The issue with lower thermostat temp comes at the extremes. An 82C heater core isn't as hot as a 89C heater core. On a very, very cold day, The 82C core may not be able to get the cabin as hot as you'd like - the flap can only open all the way. A hotter heater core would have just that much extra heat to give, and heat that air just a little more.

It's actually more complex than that, having to do with heat transfer being a function of temperature differential, thermal mass, and a bunch of other stuff.

So in a very cold climate, a cooler thermostat would mean that at HI, you wouldn't see as much heat as if you had the stock thermostat.

It wouldn't hurt to make sure the cabin temp sensor is clean (they get fuzzed up).
