mounted near a perforated ring with 58 ribs (there is a gap after the 58th rib for determining TDC). The sensor acts as a generator and produces a sinusoidal alternating current (however the ECU is interested in the frequency, not the voltage). Signal loss will result in the engine stopping/not starting. This is all paraphrased from the SAAB workshop manual 2:7 Engine management System Trionic OBDII. Since the sensor is inductive, water will not interfere with the signal. Your problem sounds like the throttle position sensor or the MAP sensor. I would gamble on the MAP sensor since if it has problems, the ECU will use the throttle Position as a default value. Do you have a manual describing the test procedures for these components?
