My 93 9k has exactly the same problems. It has been diagnosed with a faulty AIC, so I am hoping this is the problem - I am not really into exchanging the DI cartridge, I'd rather ritually slaughter the car.

The reason: I've had this car for 3 months now. After about one month, the entire engine died while on the way to Sweden (holidays) in Germany. After a quite interesting trip around the country (try locating a Saab dealer in Germany) it was diagnosed as totally dead. Now the reason I got this car is that I used to have a '95 9k v6. It came from a Saab dealer, it had full service history, and I was the second owner. In the short period I've owned it (about 6 months) nearly everything that could break down, did actually break down. Which includes transmission, a cracked cylinder, head gasket, motor mounts, TCS, you name it. When I just couldn't (and didn't want to) afford repairs anymore, I exchanged it for an as simple as possible 9k - no electronics, no failures. That's what I thought anyway.
The '93 9k has now been refitted with a revised engine, gearbox, fuel pump, water pump and thermostat. It is still causing me headaches - replacing the thermostat did not fix the overheating symptoms I am getting when idling, it seems to love its cooling fluid, and now this bad idling and stalling to top.

My first Saab was an '89 9k 2.3 turbo. I should never have sold that one, I guess.
