I bet that Saab had it all planned out with using longer studs at the end to support a heat related flexing. It didn't really turn out that great. And looking at other makes, they use the same lenght studs or bolts all over the manifold.
One very interesting side note though. It's ONLY the turbo models where the gasket start to move and where the studs are breaking.
I have no problem with reusing the 4 long studs on a non turbo model, both 900 and 9000.
And the manifold gasket haven't moved a bit on the non turbo models.
That speaks even more for that it's a heat related issue that the longer studs can't deal with.
