One time I avoided being stranded during the summer when my coolant temp sensor failed. Using this kind of wire, I shorted the large output terminal for the high-speed fan relay (in the engine bay) to the positive terminal on the battery.
Although there was a bit of a spark when I made the connection (high amperage there), it was nothing too alarming, and there was still fuse protection.
Of course, it allowed me to get home without overheating.
You could also conect the fan directly to the battery, although I preferrred to keep the fuse in line.
In an emergency, it can be useful to have wire like this in order to temporarily bypass various components directly to the battery.
Other examples:
Starter motor trigger.
Headlights.
The wire can also be used to tie things down (or up) like a dangling exhaust or broken hood latch.
