Hi,
I'm currently owning my 2nd 9000. I used to own an '83 900 GLE (S) 4 door which ran some 250,000 miles and still did great. I found the 9000 more reliable. Especially parts need less replacement (brakepads for example).
Go for a later 9000 if you want the 9000. They're way more quiet than the old model 9000.
The 9-5 is different cook. Drives great, is a much more modern car than the 9000, but then again you have to shop for models starting '99. My advise is never buy the first production models (of any car manufacturer)
If you wanna go for a cheaper solution and have a great time go for the 9000. If you want today's best go for the 9-5.
One more thing not to overlook: the 9000 is available in a 5door hatch. The 9-5 can only beat that in a wagon version.
Good luck, and stick to this great brand!!
