Check the board for earlier postings on comparisons. I have both cars, a 9-5se v6, and a ’98 9000, manual (aero engine and suspension). We started with the 9-5 and loved the car. We were so pleased with the 9-5 we decided to buy another Saab when our other car (Grand Cherokee) accumulated over 150k.

Back then, 9-5’s had been recently introduced to the market and I found that the 9000’s offered too good of a value to turn down (cost vs. mileage vs. longevity). To make a long story short, I was able to locate a low mileage ’98 9k at a fair price.

From a utility, cargo carrying and space standpoint, the 9-5 does not even compare to all the space and flexibility the 9000 offers. Even the Grand Cherokee we had can't rival the 9000. Both are equally comfortable.

The 9-5se is exceptionally fast with superb handling. The 9000 is scary fast and corners on rails. I average 24mpg in the 9-5, but 28 in the 9000. The 9000s are more distinguished, in drive, feel, and looks. If both are in the garage, I’ll always take the 9000 because it’s inspiring, exhilarating and ‘fun’ to drive.

Both have been very reliable. The 9-5 has had its servicing quirks, particularly front rotors and brake pads.

There are so many good 9000’s out there that will offer first, an unforgettable driving experience, and second a great value. My suggestion, look for a ’95-’97 Aero or ’98.

Good Luck.
