...used to be my fathers, but I have driven it a lot.

The Saab is a much quicker car, although the BMW will pull hard with all those extra ccs, although only has 3 speed auto. Probably a closer thing with the stick shift. The Saab is solid, but the BMW is incredibly solidly built. The paintwork is like new after 145k miles, the whole thing feels like it will last forever, no stone chips. Having said that, the Saab is hardly flimsy. BMW rear seat accom and boot (trunk) space is appalling considering the size of car it is - the Saab trunk is enormous. Be aware that the Aero rear seats are really for 2 passengers only, although they will still be much more comfortable than in the back of the BMW... The Saab has a lot moe equipment as standard. The Saab is massively more economical, especially around town. Saab steering has much more feel - I still find modern BMW steering far too light. Torque steer is non-existant in the Aero if your bushes are in good condition, and the geometry is OK - bit of a myth really.

For your info, my dad's accountant owned a 535i for 3 years followed by a 9000 Aero for 3 years (both from new), and he would pick the Aero every time.

Tricky decision, but I would get the Saab.
