You're sure about the battery being new? I'd pop open the cells and check your fluid level - low fluid level decreases a battery's ability to maintain a charge. If the cells are low, use distilled water to bring them back up to level, and give it one or two days. Batteries suffer in cold weather, too; having a charge level of 14.4 to 14.5V on a cold day is not unusual when running without much electrical load (i.e. lights, defroster off) until the battery has compensated for charge lost due to the cold. After running for awhile though, your charge level should return to roughly 13.9V; take Lu's advice and use a digital multimeter and check to see what the voltage really is, and compare it to your gauge.
