You don't need to go through all of that on the 9000. Just removes the bottom part of the strut (2 large bolts) then swing the entire brake rotor forward. Then just remove the 3 bolts at the top of the strut. The entire strut and spring comes out as a unit so you don't have to compress anything. The upper strut mount is what keeps the spring in check. If you want ot replace that part, that's when you'll have to get a spring compressor to take seperate the two of them. That's how I did it at least, however your attempt is to remove the 3 bolts up top first the release everything from the bottom after jacking up the car correct? this should releave enought pressure on the spring to simply remove it once you've gotten it out. If I were you though, I'd save myself some time by jacking the car up first to see how much tension gets released. If you see that it'll work, go for it them. Again, I ever did it that way though....
