Hello,
I have a '93 Aero 5 sp, and a '92 Turbo 5 sp,
and both have ACC issues that presently can
be lived with, but are strange.
The Aero's ACC does something that other folks
have had happen on theirs - to keep a comfortable
70-ish temp in the cabin, one must set the ACC
to around 62 - and doing the calibration does
not ease this for very long, if at all...
(Yes, the funny little 'sampling' fan has been
replaced, and that did not help.)
The Turbo came with a confused ACC, which seemed
to accept the calibration well enough - but it
also has a hairpin-shaped, plastic covered wire
gadget sticking out of the air vent over the ACC
box that seems to be directly connected to the
coolant supply valve for the heat....?
One pulls this to get more heat, and can push
this all the way in to stop the heat completely.
My questions:
1 - Has anyone ever seen this 'hairpin' mod -
is it something commonly done - or even some kind
of part that can be installed ?
(Yes, I think it is a good idea...)
2 - Is there a company someplace that offers
rebuilt/recalibrated ACC boxes for reasonable
money ? (And that maybe stands behind their product)
3 - Is there some little known way to make the heat
and A/C in these cars work better - so that one
does not have to be roasted in most seasons ?
4 - The Aero fogs up at any excuse, and I have found
the little condensate gates under the car and they
are clean - is there some way to make this car be
better ventilated to ease the fogging ?
I have just had my A/C compressor replaced - the old
one was seizing in use when it got hot, and the
garage I went to did not even know how to properly
diagnose this fault - they just blew me off each
time I asked them to fix the damn thing, until I
showed them on a hot day how it worked for 10 min.
then stopped dead......duh.
(If you live in, or get your Saab serviced in the
state of Vermont, you may email me and I will be
glad to tell you of a wonderful mechanic, and, if
you wish, which one I will NEVER go to again;

Thanks for any info,
mark
