Mark, I've bought many electronic parts, including Trionic boxes
from 9000's that have been totalled. I cannot remember ever
getting a bad one. Maybe I've been lucky. But, what I said about
Rumrills' still holds - and, I don't know anyone who rebuilds them.
Now, you're heater core - if you don't smell any coolant, then maybe
there's water entering the compartment where the core resides.
There's a rubber hose that attaches at the underside of the top
of the aquarium cover. It's used to drain water to the bottom of
the aquarium. Perhaps someone had the cover off and when they
put it back together didn't get the rubber hose positioned properly.
Maybe it's pointed toward the back, toward the heater core. If
any water gets back there, it could possibly work its' way through
the plenum that runs from the heater core to the blower motor......
I'm sort of reaching here.......I think you're going to have to, at the
least, remove the top cover of the aquarium (easy - only about 8
screws hold it on) to find out what's going on......good luck.
