Ok Ari, I like your logic and replies in general, they are always a read. But where did you get the 160 HP number for transmission design? Transmissions are designed for and rated by torque. RPM is a secondary factor, like in a do not exceed speed.
The first 9000's had torque in the area of 200 lb.ft. and with up grades, especially for the 2.3, it ended with 217.
What is a torque rating? The tranny manufacturer and car builder have to come to an agreement for the torque they will accept for reasonable durability. In the case of many cars this is what is considered safe operation at full throttle. Excessive wheel spin is not considered safe, although wheel spin does limit torque. Limiting wheel spin is one intent for reducing power in lower gears, it also limits torque in the output section of the tranny.
