California law says, initially inspect system for leaks Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: AC r134a refill question?, bstan, Wed, 4 Jun 2003 07:56:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
evacuate system, run vacuum pump for 30 min, turn off pump and keep system under vacuum for 10 min, recharge system and check for leaks again.
If leak is found, system has to be emptied (recovered) and repaired (or left empty).
This is if the shop wants to follow the law.
Is your car already retrofitted to R134? The 92 9000 came with R12 from factory.
If you are also planning to retrofit to R134 at the same time, a couple of additional things are needed and suggested, like new receiver/dryer, new expansion valve, flush the system and add new type of oil together with the charge of R134.
The A/C compressor has a habit of leaking in the front cover (behind A/C clutch) on those 9000 and the low/high pressure hose on top of compressor usually leaks too.
