I got mine from Engstrom.net (site sponsor). You can get them for an auto or for a stick. If you have a stick '98 or a stick Aero (same turbo), that site also offers a Stage 4 ECU re-mapping that will give you 309 hp!
There are many other places that re-map the ECU (Maptun, SQR, Swedish Dynamics, etc.). Mine was done by BSR in Sweden. Supposedly, it gives my car 247 hp (along with the 3" exhaust and K&N filter), but I think it gives more given the number and style of cars I have left in the dust.
As for the auto, yes, when I'm driving it hard, I downshift and upshift the tranny so I hold it in a gear for longer than it normally would (not red-lining it, though). I also do not hit the "kick-down" since that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the torque converter. I shift it from 4th to 3rd, then give it gas. I'm hoping this practice will extend the longevity of the ZF along with the extra power/torque that the engine is now putting out. Gotta do everything I can to save me some $$ in the end!
I also like a clutch. My '85 Nissan 300ZX is a 5-speed that is a true sports car (for that year, of course). There is nothing like downshifting it in a turn, and blowing right through the curve. But since the '98 9000 is becoming harder to find, I had to take what I could find (especially given the miles and condition of it when I bought it 2 years ago...).
