...that's a lot of power (309HP). I wonder if the low-rpm torque is also boosted? Scary: I'd be losing front-wheel traction all the time.
ECU re-mapping: sounds like just a "software change." Is it? It's probably pretty hard on the car. I wonder what component would be most stressed: turbo? Transmission? Motor mounts (damn things are expensive to replace)? I'd love the extra power but I don't want to reduce my car's life expectancy. Also, I wonder how the modification would affect emissions. There must be a reason why Saab didn't offer so much power in their production cars.
My '98 5-speed: I bought it in October with 37K miles on it, from a guy in Los Angeles, for just under $15K. He had bought it in Denver, then moved to Beverly Hills, so it wasn't a COMPLETELY California car, but it was in beautiful shape. The only problem I had with it involved the outside temperature sensor, which was messing-up the ACC. It had been involved in a minor front-end ding, which involved cosmetic work to the front. I think the mechanics must have dislodged the sensor, and then re-mounted it, but well inside the engine bay. It would read very hot, as you can imagine. It was difficult to convince the heater to come on in the winter. I fixed the problem by tie-wrapping it to the front air-dam thing. I could not locate the original mounting bracket.
There is one mystery: a hose which runs directly vertical, open at both ends, running the full height of the engine bay, pointing up at the hood, and down at the road. It's tie-wrapped on the left-hand side, near the battery. I'd have to look again to see what other hoses/wires share the same zip-tie. Maybe you can look under your hood to see if you have the same function-less hose, or if it's actually connected to something. Actually, maybe I should take a picture and post the question.
