Nice to see such a good group of owners. I've been using the search function here and have read 30 to 40 posts trying to find an definitive answer to my problem.
I just purchased a 1991 9000T from an 80 year old gentleman who was the 2nd owner of the car(the first owner was a lady friend of his). He was asking $4950 because of the emaculate shape of the vehicle, along with his attention to servicing. Considering the Kelly Blue Book value on the car in MINT condition was $4100, I paid $4500 because of the shape. I had him take the car to the shop where all of his maintainence was done (Alfred's Swedish Auto Tech, here in Los Angeles) for one last look over. After an inspection and a test drive he found that everything was fine. One of the owners (mechanic) had mentioned to me privately that the PO was a really perfectionist in making sure the car was in a+ condition and often would bring the car in to have it test driven to make sure everything felt right.

I've been driving the car for 3 days now and have noticed that when I shift into 2nd gear anywhere above approximately 3500RPM, it seems very stiff and will grind into the gear. No other gears seem to do this at all, and am getting paranoid of possible a bad syncro. I know the master cylinder was replaced in the past year (repair history). So today I had my girlfriend take the car over to Alfred's shop so they could see what I was talking about. After test driving it, he noticed nothing wrong with the way it shifted, and said that it drove perfect. My girlfriend went for the test drive and did say that he really pushed the car (as I kind of wanted him to). He thinks it's me and the way Im clutching or shifting the car. I just find it odd that it only happens in 2nd with me. My main car I have been driving is a 5sp BMW 535is, and have not experienced anything like this. Should I be shifting to 2nd by pulling slightly twords me?? Am I going mad? I am planning on taking the car back on Saturday so that he can drive with me to experience what I sometimes am feeling. I also think I might have him bleed the clutch, and check the shift coupler. Does anybody have any wisdom to help me sleep at night? I paid a premium for the car, and want to make sure that is what I bought. Thanks for any input, I look forward to maybe meeting some of you at a future event.

-Dean

PS - Sorry about the length.
