You might have a sticking caliper. When you put in a new pad, especially if the old pad was well-worn, the piston will travel a long distance when it's pushed back into the caliper. This is an excellent opportunity to get dirt and dust trapped between the piston and piston bore. Depending on how frequently the brake fluid has been flushed, you can get corrosion on the piston bore. The piston is extended with worn pads, and that area is exposed to fluid; when the piston gets pushed back in for fresh, fat pads, it now operates in an area that could be corroded.

Bottom line, the piston can get sticky. When you take your foot off the brake, the pads don't spring back - imperfections in the rotors actually push the pads back. If the piston is sticky, the pads will drag. Eventually, the pads will go back, but not until a lot of heat is generated. This isn't good - it'll destroy wheel bearings, can warp bearings, and makes the caliper even stickier.

Try this test - jack up the offending wheel and spin it. Now, hit the brake hard, and release. Now spin the wheel. How hard is it to turn? How long before it frees up? If it's hard to turn for a while, (try the other side for comparison), you probably have a sticky caliper. The solution is to either rebuild the caliper, or replace it with a rebuilt unit.

Of course, inspect the pads for uneven wear - if the pad was installed wrong (cocked), or even manufactured wrong - it could hang up. Not likely, but always good to check the cheap stuff before replacing parts.
