Did adaptation run--->car still same (new O2 sensor)...

I still don't understand why an adaptation run would be necessary when replacing an O2 sensor, esp. since the ECU will constantly adjust itself according to the readings it receives from both sensors. But I went ahead last night and reset the ECU and did a run.
It didn't do anything. The car still has zero boost in 1st and 2nd, very little in 3rd, and slightly more in 4th, but then jumps back to the yellow.
All I did was replace the primary O2 sensor and fuel filter. I touched NOTHING else. All other maintenance is up-to-date (plugs, etc.). Car was running excellent up to the point when I did this work.
What gives? Unless it's a sheer coincidence that suddenly the BPC decided to crap out at the EXACT same time I replaced a sensor and filter, or that the wastegate isn't functioning to cause this dilemma.
I'm certain it has to do with what was replaced. Could I have done the run incorrectly, or maybe it didn't take?
I followed the instructions on performing a run (3750 - 4250 rpm's for 3 secs w/o kick-down activation at full throttle 4 times). Maybe the hill I used was not steep/long enough?
When I pull the ECU fuse (#23, 5 amp), shouldn't the car run like crap upon initial start-up? If so, it didn't, so I even wonder if the ECU was ever reset.
Any thoughts? This is making me absolutely crazy!!!! I had to put my head down and bow out in shame against a competing BMW last night...
