I purchased my 94 Aero about 6 months ago after lusting after them for several years. I spent about 6 months actively researching the merits of ownership in addition to speaking directly with current and former owners.
Let me put it this way. I have had several enthusiast cars. I am impressed and completely blown away with the performance of the Aero. A feeling that was not prevalent with other cars.
Most of the comments are accurate to this point. Only a fool buys a used performance car without having a qaulified technician thoroughy examine it. Prior maintenance records and the treatment by the previous owner are crucial factors in future longevity. Accident cars should be avoided. Private party sales are preferrable (and much cheaper). Mileage should not necessarily be a determining factor (mine had 150K). Parts and service will be more expensive than a Toyota Camry for the simple reason that the cars cost $40K+ new and not many were made in comparison.
One way or another. Everybody has an opinion on Saab ownership.
Oh, I went with the Aero in part because everybody would prefer to have an Aero. In theory, even in a rear end collision, a wealth of parts from an Aero will be readily sold for premium prices.
