To update, I changed the plugs even though they didn't look too bad, and cleaned the BPC valve. Apparently my dad had already swapped valves with one from his Aero before I got there to pick the car up, so this has been ruled out too. I tried more adaptation runs and seemed to be getting a bit more boost ( almost to the red-yellow), but it was only 35-38 when I was doing it last night. My dad found checks to do on brake & reverse switches, which may be a possibility since the clutch switch for cruise was out of adjustment when I got the car. Maybe between that and disconnecting the ECU to start adapting from ground zero we'll have a cure. I'm also going to try pressure testing the intake system & see if maybe the hooter valve is leaking under pressure.
The car boosted into fuel cutoff maybe 3-4 times while I was testing with the wastegate disabled-it was kind of hard to have to reconnect it and go back to only 190-200 hp :-(. (It actually reminded me of what I read about old Mooney turbos without a wastegate- you can only use 1/4 to 1/2 throttle on the ground to avoid overboosting) Would this be enough negative adaptation to reduce boost like I'm seeing now? Just curious.
