My new-to-me '95 Aero has boost issues. It seems to be getting only base boost, or slightly more. I checked base boost and it's right at 6psi, did several adapatation runs on a long uphill, and am still only getting a peak of 7psi in any gear (didn't try adapting in 5th :-) ) I pulled out the hooter valve, which doesn't leak when blowing thru it, the diaphragm moves when I put vacuum on it. I disconnected the top APC solenoid hose & get tons of boost, right into fuel cutoff, which seems to rule out the wastegate/actuator. Interestingly, the very reputable indy who did a prepurchase check on the car thought the issue was base boost adjustment, but due to time issues (non-refundable flight), I couldn't let him keep playing with the car. I had to rethread the actuator arm b/c the threads were rusted.
I can't find any obvious vacuum leaks, but I changed a few small hoses; there was a bit of oil around the PCV hose barb on the intake manifold. I've already done searches, but not sure where else to go right now. Could it be the hooter valve sticking or otherwise failing, bad APC solenoid? (How do you test the solenoid?) I have a new set of plugs, but the car just had a major service- I haven't pulled the current plugs yet- ran out of time & had to do home/family related stuff for awhile tonight.
