There are three wires that matter for power on an amplifier. One your power supply (+ 12V) This goes to the + on your battery or to a fuse in your fuse box if there is one large enough. Ground ( 0V ) which goes to a clean unpainted piece of metal on the car. All metal on your car leads back to the batteries (-) connection. Make sure your ground wire is as short as it can possibly be, which means keep it down to a couple inches if possible. And finally the remote lead (+ 12V) which is connetected to any 12V that turns on and off with the car. If you have an aftermarket radio it will have a remote lead built in that you can connect it to. For test purposes this remote line can be connected to the (+) side on the battery and the amp will be on all the time, but I would disconnect this when you are done testing otherwise you will kill your battery quickly. For sound to go to the amp the RCA's cable must be connected from the headunit (radio) to the amplifer. Check the crossover settings on the amplifier to make there is not a low pass filter set lower then your speakers can go. If you speaker have a cross over and your amp has a cross over then the amp may be cutting off the sound so low your speakers are not getting anything. Make sure the gains are at least at 1/2 to make sure that you will hear sound comming through (These can be turned up or down at a later time) Make sure your speaker are correctly connected to the amplifier. This means if they are bridged that you consulted the manual on the proper connections for bridging and if there is a "bridged" switch that it is on or off accordingly. I can tell you a ton more info then this, but I thought I should at least get you on the right path first.
